Child car seat check set for Maui | News, Sports, Jobs

Child car seat checks will be conducted at Maui Marketplace in Kahului from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 23.

The event is one of several being held across the state next week as part of National Child Passenger Safety Week.

State law requires a rear-facing car seat with a harness for infants under 2 years old, a rear-facing or forward-facing car seat with harness for keiki from 2 to 4 years old, and a child passenger safety seat or booster seat for all keiki under 10 years old, unless the child is over 4 feet, 9 inches tall. Those over 10 years old or over 4-foot-9 must have a seat belt that fits correctly.

During the event on Sept. 23, technicians will help determine if children are in the right seats for their ages and sizes and explain the importance of registering car seats with manufacturers to be notified of any recalls.
